What is ILT?

Here's how Interactive Light Therapy (ILT) is believed to reduce/eliminate symptoms:

Symptoms and slow brainwaves are related.

When people are overly stressed, injured, or traumatized, their brainwaves get fixed, or "stuck" in a pattern of predominantly slow waves. This is called "EEG slowing" - meaning that the strongest or dominant brainwaves are cycling at very slow speeds - and it's associated with symptoms such as anxiety, depression, irritability, fatigue, hyperactivity, distractibility, mood swing, confusion, disorganization, and problems with sleep, concentration, following conversations, reading comprehension, memory, attention, etc.

We believe that EEG slowing occurs when the integrating function of the brain's cortex is inhibited. Interactive Light Therapy helps restore this integrating function, and is thus a direct means of affecting, and often resolving, the symptoms listed above. Like a conductor leading a symphony orchestra, ILT brings out the brain's natural ability to perform with clarity, harmony, and balance.

ILT reduces "EEG slowing".

With the help of sophisticated computer technology, the patient's dominant, or strongest, brainwaves control the rate at which a set of tiny lights flash dimly before the eyes. The brightness of the lights is carefully adjusted for comfort as the interaction of the lights and the patients brain gently reduces the strong slow frequency brainwaves. At the same time, the higher dominant frequencies are increased. These changes are equivalent to greater functioning, both neurologically and behaviorally. When the slow wave activity is integrated by more wide-ranging and variable patterns of activity, symptoms decrease or disappear.

Number of Visits:

We have found that approximately 85% of people experience an improvement in some or all of their symptoms during or immediately after the very first time they come in. Additional sessions are generally needed to continue allowing the brain to re-train itself. The total number of sessions that most people end up coming in for varies according to the level of improvement they are seeking. Somewhere between 3 - 15 visits is the average for most people.

At the culmination of therapy, the brain adapts to this new flexibility and, like a thermostat that has been re-set, it no longer needs the help of ILT.

The process is easy and highly enjoyable.

There is nothing for you to learn, to focus on, or to practice. The lights do all the work and you can simply relax and enjoy feelings of peace and well being. After a session people generally feel very relaxed but also very alert with a calm focused mind. A deep sense of happiness is also very common.

Any side-effects and do the results last?

In almost 14 years of helping thousands of people with ILT, no one to date has reported any lasting negative side effect, nor have they been harmed in any way, nor have they developed any new symptoms. A small percentage may notice that in the first week or so while certain symptoms are greatly improving, others may slightly worsen. This happens only in a small number of people and is generally well tolerated because it only occurs in the presence of them feeling much better as other symptoms are going away. For all those who have been helped by this, they report that the benefits they gained seem to only sustain or increase after their treatment. If in the future someone suffers a head injury or goes through highly significant emotional traumas, it may be helpful to come back in again for 1-3 sessions to re-balance the brain, if they feel this is needed.

Most people begin to see noticeable results after their first session.
Like a thermostat that has been reset, the brain adopts itself to a new level of higher functioning and no longer needs the help of the ILT.
